Arts and Culture Launceston Tamar Valley Tasmania

Arts & Culture

Heart of arts...

Launceston has a strong cultural identity, with many of the island's award winning artists and designers living in the creative environment of the city and surrounds.

Chance upon something new and undiscovered in one of the many boutique galleries, or appreciate the fusion of design and functionality at the Design Centre's Tasmanian Wood Design Collection. From Tasmania's iconic Huon Pine furniture pieces, to canvas, paper design, pottery and sculpture, the array of local wares are sure to endear themselves to anyone with a penchant for beautiful things.

For an evening's entertainment why not catch a production by a local or touring theatre company in the city's historic Princess Theatre or the magnificent Albert Hall. For music to soothe the soul, head for a night of classical music with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, or catch a local troubadour at one of our pubs for a night of jazz, folk or blues. With some of the best crowd reviews in the country, Launceston Tamar Valley has become a hub for music festivals and gigs by major touring artists.

Launceston also hosts the University of Tasmania's Academy of the Arts in the Inveresk precinct, along with our budding young designers in the School of Architecture.
